- Mediators Help Distraught Families Create Senior Care Plans for Parents Despite each of their best intentions for Mom or Dad, brothers and sisters frequently differ greatly on the best plan for caring for their parent in his or her senior years. Mom and Dad, of course, have their own desires and opinions on how they wish to live in their remaining years. Sharp Resolutions professional mediators sensitively assist families in working through these difficult issues so that a plan can be created together that meets the parent's unique needs and interests.
- Facilitated Community Dialogue Resolves Tensions Between a Senior Community and New Neighborhood Restaurant Shortly after a new restaurant opened its doors in a predominantly senior living neighborhood, tensions flared. Complaints by residents ranged from rubbish in the streets to scarcity of parking to loud customers exiting the restaurant – all contributing to the community’s frustration and resentment. After a Sharp Resolutions facilitator conducted community dialogue sessions, peace and order were restored when agreements were struck for the restaurant to provide free valet parking (which addressed both the parking and noise problems) and a commitment to clean up all restaurant-related litter daily.
- Mediation and Facilitation Used to Calm Internal Management Environment A San Diego nonprofit organization brought in Sharp Resolutions conflict resolution specialists to assist them with a very challenging and common problem: internal decision-making difficulties between an executive director and his cadre of department directors. Issues involved both personality conflicts and disparate viewpoints regarding how best to accomplish the organization’s goals. Sharp Resolutions created and implemented a process specifically designed to fit their unique needs that included three phases: first, by working out personal issues in a series of mediations between the conflicting individuals; second, by facilitating a consensus building process that helped the directors reconfirm their organization’s mission, identify their primary objectives and brainstorm specific solutions acceptable to all; and, third, by training the directors in conflict resolution and consensus building skills to help them prevent and resolve future issues.
- Local Organization Enlists Sharp Resolutions to Facilitate the Creation of a Strategic Marketing Plan With a sizable contract running out, a large Southern California nonprofit organization enlisted Sharp Resolution facilitators to conduct strategic planning for new marketing opportunities. Over two days, the facilitation team helped key leaders from the nonprofit methodically develop a plan for landing new business. Steps in the strategic planning process included: identifying the organization’s primary strengths; brainstorming multiple business options they could offer targeted audiences; selecting the preferred options; organizing the nonprofit’s staff and independent contractors to execute the selections; creating action plans with timelines; and, setting specific, measureable objectives to evaluate the progress of the strategic plan.
